Flash Flooding

Report all flooding to local Law Enforcement, the National Weather Service, and NewsChannel5.

The National Weather Service needs to determine whether the flooding is "low impact" or whether it is a threat to life and property.

Some cities have certain locations that commonly flood when there is heavy rainfall.

If you see flooding of this type, please state that in your report. When rivers are swollen, although flooding may not be occurring at that moment, additional rainfall could quickly send waterways over their banks.

High water may just be a prelude of much higher water to come. In this situation, report the high water levels and continue to monitor very closely.

Storm Spotters should report any situation in which water is standing or running in areas that it normally does not.

Do not drive through water covering the road. Roads can be washed away by flood waters. High water and mud can obscure road damage.

Report any flooding that occurred during the overnight and wasn’t noticed until the following day.
