Dcoks Destroyed, Boats Missing After Storm

Storms Rip Boats From Local Marinas

UPDATED: 8:31 am EDT May 23, 2004

The U.S. Coast Guard says more than 100 boats docked at local marinas broke free in the intense storms Saturday morning, causing millions of dollars in damage.

In the Rocky River, docks were destroyed and dozens of boats are missing or wrecked, according to local boater Amanda DiBenedetto.

SLIDESHOW: Docks Break Loose

"Everything is piled up on top of one another," DiBenedetto said. "And here, 85 docks are gone, and we don't see 85 boats here, so either they're sunk in the river, or they're out in the lake."

There is a safety zone in effect around the Cuyahoga River as crews try to stabilize the debris.

Other marinas hit hard were the Emerald Necklace and the Cleveland Yacht Club.
